ABOUT MARK HANHAM
Collectable. Notorious. "Hyperpollock!"
Born 1978 in Paddington Sydney, Australian Mark Hanham studied at National Art School then completed a Master’s Degree in Art at the College of Fine Art. He has painted every day since he was fourteen years of age and is an extraordinarily successful commercial artist. In 2011 at the age of 33, he took the almost unprecedented step of opening his own gallery in Sydney’s busy Crown Street Surry Hills, exhibiting only MARK HANHAM ART. The gallery is entering its third year and has defied economic downturns to become one of the most successful galleries in Sydney.
Mark this year will be exhibiting at the Art Fairs in Melbourne, and Hong Kong and most likely will have a solo show in Singapore in October.
Mark’s clients include Russell Crowe, Lionel Richie, Walker Corporation, Lisa McGuigan and many corporate and private collections nationally and internationally. His bold expressive landscapes of iconic urban centres – PARIS, SYDNEY, NEW YORK, LONDON, VENICE, TOKYO, are unique and are total show stoppers. His point of difference is scale and energy but all counterpoised with romanticism, hope and a commentary on the human condition.
Appreciating at 10 - 15% per annum, Mark Hanham is certainly one of the collectable, investment artists of Australia at the moment.
Come and see what all the fuss is about.
"I did not simply choose to be an artist. It probably started when I was a child, born and bred in Paddington surrounded by galleries and people who are truly passionate about design and the Arts in every form.
The use of abstract line and form brings quite a range of problems to be solved. A series of imaginative developments involving colour, texture and more lines are added to my works until I am satisfied that I have captured "a moment in time".
I have tried to take a more literal approach to abstract expressionism since completing my Masters Degree in 2004 via a more figurative way of working so that you can see what the image is, without seeing it all.
This allows the viewer to imbue their individual sense into the work. It invites them to get involved. A lot of my work is about street and city scapes, it’s about the chaos of a city - the rush, the isolation and the alienation".
